CORE Outbreak Investigation Table

The CORE Outbreak Investigation Table is a list of outbreak and adverse event investigations primarily being managed by FDA’s CORE Response Teams. The investigations are in a variety of stages, meaning that some outbreaks have limited information, and others may be near completion. The table will be updated weekly.

This week’s updates are: 

• A new outbreak of Salmonella Africana (ref #1351) has been added to the table. FDA has initiated traceback.
• For the outbreak of Salmonella Saintpaul (ref #1353) the case count has increased from 44 to 50. 
• For the outbreak of Salmonella Richmond (ref #1345) linked to moringa leaf powder, FDA updated the advisory to share final investigational updates. CDC has declared that the outbreak is over. 

The following investigations are now closed:  

• For the outbreak of Salmonella Lomalinda (ref #1339) linked to spring mix, FDA’s investigation is closed. Based on CDC’s epidemiological investigation, ill people reported eating spring mix before becoming sick. CDC, FDA, and state and local partners conducted epidemiologic and traceback investigations, and collected and analyzed product and environmental samples. All samples collected as part of the investigation were reported as negative for Salmonella. Once investigators had enough information to confirm spring mix as the source of this outbreak, the outbreak was no longer considered ongoing, and the spring mix was past shelf life and not available for sale. This outbreak is over, and there is no ongoing risk to public health.  
• For the outbreak of Listeria monocytogenes (ref #1334) linked to a not identified product, FDA’s investigation is closed. 
• For the outbreak of Salmonella Enteritidis (ref #1329) linked to a not identified product, FDA’s investigation is closed. 
• For the outbreak of Cyclospora cayetanensis (ref #1325) linked to parsley, FDA’s investigation is closed. Based on CDC’s epidemiological investigation, ill people reported eating food items or dishes that contained parsley before becoming sick. CDC, FDA, and state and local partners conducted epidemiologic and traceback investigations, and collected and analyzed product and environmental samples. All samples collected as part of the investigation were reported as negative for Cyclospora. Investigators confirmed parsley as the likely source of this outbreak. The parsley linked to illnesses was past shelf life and not available for sale. This outbreak is over, and there is no ongoing risk to public health.  
• For the outbreak of Cyclospora cayetanensis (ref #1313) linked to a not identified product, the case count has been adjusted from 47 to 48. FDA’s investigation is closed.
